There are some tell-tale signs of toe arthritis

One of the first things that you may notice at the onset of arthritis in your big toe is a pain that is felt in the joints of the toe, especially when you go to move it. You may also find it suddenly get difficult to walk. Cold weather may affect your big toe more, bringing on more aches and pains than normal. Your toe may endure some swelling and redness. If you think that you are experiencing the beginning signs of arthritis in your big toe, then you should get in to see a podiatrist. They may be able to help you to slow down the progression of the arthritis and even help you to get some relief.

You may be wearing the wrong shoes

If you have been wearing shoes that are too tight and don't give your toes the freedom they should have to wiggle around a bit, then this can contribute to you ending up with arthritis in your big toe, as well as in the rest of your toes and feet as well. Also, if you are wearing shoes that squish your toes down and put more weight on them, such as high heeled shoes, then this can also contribute to you ending up with arthritis in your toes and feet.

  You can get some relief

Before you are able to get to the podiatrist to have your arthritic toe tended to, there are some things that you can do to get some relief from the aches and pains that it causes you. You can take some anti-inflammatories that will help to bring the inflammation down, along with some of the pain. You can also put a rub on the toe that is over the counter and meant to help with the pain of such things as arthritis. You can also soak your foot in a hot basin of water and Epsom salts.

You may also be able to get some relief by working with an orthopedic rehab service. They will know just what is wrong with your toe and how to have you work with it to help alleviate some of the pain, as well as retain much of its flexibility. Also, if you end up needing surgery on your toe due to the severity of the arthritis, which may cause other issues, then they can help you after surgery.
