COVID-19 will be one of the most memorable, challenging, life-changing experiences that many people will ever go through. It has changed almost every aspect of modern life and for a year, it was the focal point of nearly everyone's attention. However, as vaccines start to roll out in the US and more and more of the populace gets their shot, life is slowly returning to normal. Still, it remains extremely important that you stay vigilant about COVID-19 and follow many of the same guidelines that you have for the last year.

New Strains Can Change The Situation In An Instant

America, and indeed the world, is not out of the woods yet. The problem with such a widespread virus is that it has a lot of time to mutate and change. This allows for the creation of new strains of COVID-19 and those can be less affected by vaccines. While this has not been established as a major problem with vaccinations yet (and you should definitely get vaccinated when you get the chance) it could be in the future if people do not keep following social distancing practices. Becoming complacent now could mean a bigger wave in the future.

COVID-19 Testing Rates Drop

Testing rates across the country have dropped as more and more American's get the vaccine, and while that is partially a good thing, it represents a worrying trend. The only way to adequately provide supplies and counter the virus is to know where it is and how it is operating. If you have any symptoms of COVID, then you should absolutely go to a COVID-19 testing facility. Knowledge is power and the authorities in charge of modeling and budgeting need as much information as they can handle. Even if you return a negative sample, it is still good information for those in charge.

It Can Restart Very Quickly

If people become too unfazed by COVID-19, then there is a real chance that a new outbreak would find everyone back outside, in tight spaces, and without masks. It only takes a couple of days to change the current negative trajectory of cases, and another wave could be worse than those before it. Everyone is sick and tired of these rules, but getting so close to the finishing line and then having to do another lap is not what anyone wants either. Call out behavior that you recognize as unsafe and remind your close circle to get tested when sick, vaccinated when available, and socially distant where possible.
