Bunions can be a major pain to deal with. There are surgeries that can be performed to help people with bunions, and if you have a bunion, you might be thinking about having this surgery done. Surgery isn't the only option, though, and it's not even the best option for everyone. These are a few signs that you might be one of the people who can be helped with bunion surgery, however.

1. You Have a Severe Bunion

If you only have a mild bunion, then surgery might not be necessary for you. If you have a more severe bunion, though, you might experience a lot of problems from it, so you may want to find out more about surgery.

2. You Experience Pain from Your Bunion

Some people don't really experience any discomfort at all from their bunions. If this is the case for you, then you might want to wait before you have surgery. If you experience pain later on, though, it might be something to explore. If you do experience pain from your bunion, though, you could be hoping that there is something that you can do to help get some relief. Having bunion surgery might be what it takes for you to get rid of the pain, especially if you suffer from constant or very severe bunion pain.

3. You Have Tried Other Methods First

Many people like to try other methods before they opt for surgery. As of right now, you might not have tried any other treatment options for dealing with your bunion. If this is the case, do some research or talk to your podiatrist about your options. For some people, losing weight makes a big difference. There are pads that can be used on your bunion, and you might find that wearing shoe inserts makes a big difference. Your doctor might even suggest a splint, which you can wear when you're sleeping, to help.

If you have tried some or all of these things with no results, then you might not have many more choices before you can start looking into surgery. If you haven't explored these options, though, you may want to check them out before you start looking into surgery.

Having a bunion is not something that is very enjoyable. Surgery might be your best option, but consider the points above and talk to your doctor if you're still trying to figure out if it might be right for you.
