In 2017, there were 17.5 million cosmetic procedures performed in the United States. Of those procedures, 1.8 million of them were considered invasive plastic surgeries. There are many reasons women are willing to go through an invasive surgery to look better. Besides improving their appearance or enhancing the shape of their body, women choose plastic surgery because they feel it will boost their confidence. Others get it because they have scars or other types of deformities they want to correct.
No matter what the reason for choosing plastic surgery, more women than ever are getting these three procedures.
1. Breast Augmentation
Whether it's because they want larger breasts or they want to correct uneven ones, many women are choosing to go through with breast augmentation. During this type of procedure, implants that are made of either silicone or saline are placed underneath the breast tissue. On average, these implants will last up to 12 years.
Some women who have breast augmentation do so after having children, which helps to restore the size and shape of their breasts.
2. Liposuction
This type of procedure is done as a way to break up fat and suck it from the body. Liposuction is most commonly used on these parts of the body:
- Abdomen
- Thighs
- Buttocks
- Neck
- Underneath the arms
Some women even choose to have fat removed from their chin.
Once considered the most popular cosmetic procedure, liposuction is now the second most common procedure after breast augmentation. In 2017, there were about 246,000 liposuction procedures done compared to over 300,000 breast augmentation procedures.
One popular type of liposuction procedure is BodyTite Liposuction, which is less invasive and provides more skin tightening than traditional liposuction.
3. Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)
When it comes to certain body parts, women have absolutely no control over what some of them will look like. This is especially true of their nose, which can often be too long, too short, too flat, or too big. Besides having a nose that looks better, there are other benefits rhinoplasty offers as well.
Some of these benefits include:
- Helping to improve breathing and decrease snoring when structural problems are corrected
- Helping to correct nasal malformations that are caused by birth defects
- Fixing any deformities caused by previous injuries, such as a broken nose
Of all the invasive plastic surgeries performed in 2017, nearly 219,000 of them were nose jobs.
